Features on Squarespace that easily level up your website

Let’s get one thing straight first - building a website is never quick & easy. Yes, most website builders today claim that they are, because compared to the old way of doing things (with a developer, a designer and a whole lot of headaches), Squarespace and all of its competitors make things quick-er* and easi-er*. But even if you have an eye for design and maybe have built a site before, there’s always some planning, researching and building that goes into a good site. With that being said, there are several ways that Squarespace makes it easy to take that incredibly valuable and functional site you’re creating , and add a WOW factor.

Portfolio Sections

Interactive, dynamic and fun, these sections feel like custom code but they’re super easy to add to your Squarespace 7.1 site. Here’s how:

- Go to Pages
- Click the ‘+’ to Add a New Page
- Select ‘Portfolio’ under the ‘Collections’ section
- Select ‘Portfolio 3’
- Click on the new page and click ‘Edit
- Click on the pencil icon to edit the layout of the portfolio
- Try out the different layout options!

Element Animations

Once you’ve added all of your images, you don’t need to stop there. You have the option to add animations throughout your site by following these quick steps:

- Go to the edit mode of the page you’re working on
- Add or click on an image, then click the pencil icon
- Click the ‘Design’ tab
- Click ‘Animation’
- Click through the different options!

If you want to add animations through the entire site at once, you can also do so in just a few clicks:

- Click on the paint brush icon in the top right corner of the Squarespace edit view to reveal the Site Styles section
- Click ‘Animations’
- Select the style and speed you’d like

Background Effects

These elements are sure to catch your viewers eye. Play around with these different visual effects that can be easily applied to any background section in your site:

- Go to the edit mode of the page you’re working on
- Add or go to a section with a background image
- Click on the pencil icon
- Click the ‘Background’ tab
- Scroll down and click the ‘Image Effect’ drop down
- Try out the different effects!

While the task of creating a site should be taken on with a respect for the process (and knowing when to ask for help!) I hope you can feel a spark of inspiration and creativity knowing that theses effects are just a few clicks away for you on Squarespace.
