Simple but effective ways to improve your digital marketing

Here’s my hot take - the key to improving your digital marketing is not getting it perfect but reviewing often and making updates as you go. If you make smaller tweaks more frequently you’ll keep your digital presence current, instead of waiting to revamp everything all at once and feeling completely overwhelmed. When I say digital marketing, I’m referring to all the different places that someone interacts with your brand online, like your website, social media and email marketing. Let’s break down some simple things you can do to improve each of these areas, but remember, the point isn’t to do it ALL right away. Try picking one thing from the list below to tackle this week or this month, then another thing the week or month after, and results are sure to follow.

Website

  • Review your homepage - do you need to update your services, latest work or bio?

  • Look at your navigation menu - is it easy to find, learn about and book your services?

  • Check in on your client intake process - are your calls to action to inquire or book a call clear? Do your intake form questions need to be updated? Is the overall flow smooth and working well for you and the client?

  • Look at your freebies / lead magnets - do you need to create a new one? If you need some help, check out my freebie guide

  • Review the mobile site - is there anything that needs to be reformatted or optimized?

  • Test how fast your page loads - use this link to test your load speed and see what you can do to improve it

  • Do a quick keyword sweep - see if you could add a few keywords throughout your copy and meta descriptions

Social Media

  • Look at your colour scheme & fonts - have you been consistent enough to be recognizable? Or on the other hand, could you change up one colour in your palette to match the current season or refresh your look?

  • Try some new templates - Canva is such an incredible resource, so if you’re stuck on inspiration you should check out their latest templates! Creative Market is a great place for paid templates, and of course you can also hire a designer for custom designs.

  • Review your schedule and process - are you over estimating how often you can consistently post? Are you enjoying or getting results from what you share? Can you turn work you’re already doing in your business into content and just focus on storytelling instead of starting from scratch every day?

Email Marketing

  • Look at your content & frequency - has it been a while since you sent out a newsletter? Are you only emailing your newsletter with sales or promotions? Try setting a more realistic frequency and focus on serving your audience with helpful info more than you sell.

  • Simplify your templates - pretty email designs are fun (trust me, I love designing them!) but if the design is holding you back, stick to plain text or a simple header and footer. Email marketing can be beautiful, but it doesn’t have to be to be effective.

  • Setup or improve your nurture sequence - do you have a few emails in an automated sequence after someone signs up for your newsletter? Could you refresh that content or add an additional valuable / helpful email to it?

Improving your digital marketing strategy doesn't have to be complicated.

But if you try to do everything at once, it will be. So seriously, pick ONE thing from this list and take 30 minutes make some updates. Then make it a habit to review and make updates often. Simple is powerful!
